Governance model

The governance model combines internal accountability with external scientific advice. Institutional and editorial responsibility remains with the Director, while review, disclosure, privacy, and territorial sensitivity are applied proportionately to each type of output and research context.

Principles

  • Analytical independence Research conclusions are not determined by commercial objectives or platform performance goals.
  • Proportional review Review and validation practices are adapted to output type, policy brief, research paper, or technical report.
  • Transparency and disclosure Funding sources, partnerships, and potential conflicts are disclosed in each publication whenever relevant.

Roles and responsibility

Roles are defined to ensure clear responsibility for editorial integrity, methodological soundness, and external representation. When collaborations involve municipalities or funders, the relationship and scope are explicitly documented.

For sensitive territorial contexts, privacy and community protection guide publication choices, favoring aggregated reporting and avoiding identifiable signals.

Scientific Council

The Scientific Council provides independent academic and methodological advice to NomadVillage Research, strengthening research quality, interdisciplinary dialogue, territorial sensitivity, and institutional accountability.

Mandate

  • Research priorities Advises on research agendas, evidence gaps, and the relevance of proposed lines of inquiry to rural and territorial transformation.
  • Methodological and ethical perspective Provides external input on methods, integrity safeguards, disclosure practices, conflicts of interest, and territorial sensitivity.
  • Academic and institutional dialogue Strengthens connections with universities, research networks, and international debates relevant to NomadVillage Research.

Advisory role

Council members serve in an external advisory capacity. They may contribute perspectives on research design, publications, thematic priorities, and institutional collaborations according to their areas of expertise.

Editorial decisions and institutional responsibility remain with the Director of NomadVillage Research. Members are expected to disclose relevant conflicts of interest and to recuse themselves when appropriate.

Urbanist and interdisciplinary researcher whose work examines everyday mobility, dwelling practices, and the relationships between bodies, territories, and urban processes. She coordinates the PhD Program in Territory, Space and Society at FAU - Universidad de Chile and the Fondecyt project “Situating Urban Knowledge”. Her academic training includes Concordia University, the Development Planning Unit at UCL, and the London School of Economics.

Sociologist and researcher at Universitas Brawijaya, where he is Founder and Senior Researcher at the Center for Cultural and Frontier Studies - CCFS UB. He is also a researcher at Pusat Kolaborasi Riset Perubahan Sosial, Inovasi, dan Transisi Digital - PKR PERINTIS. His work engages with social change, cultural and frontier studies, innovation, and digital transitions.

Dr. Ringo Benjamim Victor

Geographer and university lecturer, with a PhD in Geography from Universidade Estadual Paulista - UNESP (2017), a Master’s degree in Soils and Ecosystem Quality from Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia - UFRB (2014), and a degree in Geography Teaching from Universidade Pedagógica de Moçambique (2010). He has published scientific articles and book chapters, and currently serves as a professor at Púnguè University in Tete Province.

These safeguards apply across research design, collaboration, review, and publication. More detailed policies may be published as the research portfolio, partnerships, and disclosure requirements expand.

Conflicts of interest

When research relates to NomadVillage programs, pilots, or commercial relationships, the connection is disclosed. Council members and reviewers are expected to declare conflicts and recuse themselves when relevant.

Privacy and territorial sensitivity

We prioritize aggregated reporting and avoid identifiable territorial signals when publication could expose communities, distort local dynamics, or create unintended pressure on housing and services.
